What should I do if I receive a virus warning?
Due to the large number of virus hoaxes that exist, it's important to verify the validity of a virus warning that you receive in your E-Mail inbox or that you hear about from a friend or colleague. The major anti-virus software manufacturers provide news headlines on their web sites that identify recent outbreaks and reference libraries of past viruses, and an organization called CIAC (which is operated by the U.S. Department of Energy) maintains a site called Hoaxbusters, which can help you verify if a virus warning is a hoax.
