Web Sites of Interest
Matt's Script Archive
Many free CGI scripts to perform a variety of functions, such as form handling, discussion forums, guest books, and searches. This is a good site to get started with many CGI-based functions.
W3C - The World Wide Web Consortium
The standard-setting organization for the World Wide Web. This site has more information than you can read in one session, but it is the definitive reference for HTML, Cascading Style Sheets, XML, and related topics. Not light reading, but useful nonetheless.
Gamelan
This site bills itself as "The Official Java Directory." If you're interested in Java programming, you'll want to peruse this site and absorb the information and useful links this site provides.

Books
Book Cover UNIX in a Nutshell
If we had to select just one UNIX book, this would be it. It provides the basic UNIX commands that will help you get around on the UNIX command line.
Book Cover TCP/IP Network Administration
This book should be sold as a bundle with the above, since it tells you the ins and outs of the TCP/IP protocol, and how it pertains to a UNIX system connected to the Internet. Especially helpful if you are connecting your network to the Internet via a dedicated connection.
Book Cover Programming Perl
Written by Larry Wall, the creator of Perl, this book is the comprehensive reference on the language. Once you have learned the basics, such as what Teach Yourself Perl 5 in 21 Days will do, this is the guide for you. Highly recommended.
